Cameo carved by G. B. CERBARA, 18th century. カメオ

Gold brooch set with a great oval agate cameo sculpted in high relief, with two layers (a beige jasper on a orange calcedony ground) and framed by a simple yellow gold border. The cameo is depicting a classical bust of a man, in profile to the right. The carving of the details are very fine and the style of the figure is vigorous. A signature is carved in latins caracters, behind the neck of the figure : CERBARA.
Good condition, except a small imperfection on the ear, perhaps due to the agate itself.
Italian work of the end of 18yh century.

カメオ

It's a work of Giovanni Battista CERBARA, born in Roma in 1740, died in 1812. The portrait of Napoléon Bonaparte by this gem-carver is famous. The Museum of Munchen keep three pieces of his work. His two sons, Guiseppe and Niccolo, successed him and were well-known themselves.
