Renaissance signet ring set with intaglio.ルネサンスのリング
Rare gold signet ring with an oval bezel set with a cornelain intaglio of Mercury (?). A beaded line encircles the bezel. The shoulders are chased with foliated strapwork. The plain hoop is round section.
The red cornelian intaglio is engraved with a nice and unusual figure of Mercury (?) and dates probably of the same perios. Part of the surface of the stone is calcified. There is a small chip above the head of the figure.
The size of the finger tells us it’s a man’s ring. It must have been used as a signet.
France, 16th century.
