Roman intaglios and cameos

Roman cameo set in a gold ring. Hercules. カメオ

Small oval sardonyx cameo of Roman period, engraved in an agate with three layers. The bearded face looking to the right (Hercules), is finely carved in the upper white layer and stands on the second layer of sard. The third layer, white colour, appears around the beveled edge, like agates known as "nicolo".
The face is finely carved, treatment of the beard is very remarkable.
Excellent condition, with some tiny chips on the edge.
The gold mounting is modern.
