Interview of Fabian de Montjoye for Artfinding.

The glyptique, in other words the art of the engraved stone, covers two types of artifacts: the cameo (hard stone or fine whose figure or reason is cut in low relief) and the intaglio (the figure is engraved in hollow). Beautiful, invaluable and of a great culture, these objects were at all times coveted.

This art which goes up at the beginning of civilization, knew several periods of apogee, initially at the time gréco-Roman, then at the time of the Renaissance and, finally, at the time neo-classic (fine of the 18th century at the beginning of the 19th century). During centuries, amateurs, humanistic at the same time cultivated and impassioned, constituted gem collections (or “dactyliothèques”) whose inventories allow the traceability of the most valuable pieces.

But of other parts still sleep, those whose current owners are unaware of the value or neglect the attraction. And it is there that all the interest of Internet resides which makes it possible these owners to quickly find the professionals anxious to make like and circulate the pieces inside this confidential market where the economic reason will never succeed in carrying it on passion.

In an exclusive interview, Fabian de Montjoye, expert in cameo and roman intaglio, entrust his vision of the market of art for ARTFINDING.
